Introducing Heather Dentino, Advanced Practice Nurse, WHNP-BC, the newest addition to the Couri Center for Gynecology and Integrative Women’s Health. Heather joined the Couri Center in 2019 as a nurse, where she was inspired by the holistic approach and individualized care provided by the team. Her passion for women’s health led her to pursue a Master’s degree and become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Heather is excited to partner with and empower women to better understand their bodies and provide the resources they need to achieve optimal health. With her dedication, resilience, and commitment to patient care, Heather is an excellent addition to the Couri Center team.
What inspired you to become an APN?
My journey began in 2019 when I was a nurse at the Couri Center. I was immediately inspired by the personalized and holistic approach that Dr. Couri, Physician Assistant Hope Placher, and APN Dana Humes-Goff took toward patient care. Witnessing their investment in each patient’s health and wellness sparked my interest in pursuing the role of an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
What area are you most passionate about in women’s health?
I am passionate about empowering women to take charge of their health by better understanding their bodies and the various changes that occur throughout a woman’s lifetime. As an APN, I am excited to partner with my patients to provide them with the resources and knowledge they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
What is one word you would use to describe yourself?
Resilient.
If you really knew me, you’d know…
That I am a proud Alabama native and a die-hard Alabama football fan. Roll Tide!
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my family, whom God has blessed me with.
What’s your favorite hobby or activity outside of work?
I love trying new and challenging activities like snow skiing, surfing, and rock climbing. When I became a parent, I realized it’s important that my children be brave and not have unnecessary fear. And if I want them to be brave, sometimes I have to show them what that looks like. Turns out, it feels pretty good to accomplish something you didn’t think you could!
What message would you like to share with your patients?
I want to encourage my patients not to suffer in silence. Just because you have experienced pain or illness your whole life does not mean it has to be that way. I believe that wellness is achievable for every person, and I am here to listen, partner with you, and provide the resources and knowledge you need to feel your best. Let’s work together to help you thrive!
